Terrick Heckstall's review Nov 22, 14
5 of 5 stars Read in November, 2014 How to describe The Sybil.....Well, the short answer would be awesome. There are themes of Greek mythology in the story, which hooked me in from the word go. Due to Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, we've seen a resurgence of interest in Greek mythology. But Witherspoon's The Sybil takes those mythological elements and transmorgriphies them into something special, spellbinding, and lusciously preternatural. She uses the darker aspects of the Greek tales and masterfully weaves them into a contemporary concept of beautiful, unassuming, slightly sardonic woman who wants to get ahead in life and maybe find love as she does so. Then the otherworldly comes along and changes everything. It truly is a gripping ride. There is a huge desire to connect with Eva McRayne from the minute you meet her. The thing that I like most about the protagonist is that she is remarkably human. She is not a paragon of virtue, nor is she a walking encyclopedia. She is a normal young woman who wants to meet a great man and have the ability to sufficiently pay her bills. In my opinion, its this very humanity that makes her ride even more enjoyable than it already is. Cynthia developed her, as well as the secondary characters, magnificently. The Sybil is an amazing read, with definite re-read value. All I can say is that if this is how Book 1 is, I cannot wait to get my hands on Book 2! L.A. Wild's review Dec 07, 14 5 of 5 stars Read from December 07 to 08, 2014 Must read! I love it! This is a beautiful story. Well written with believable characters who I enjoyed getting to know. I love the subtle chemistry between Eva and Elliot, their relationship left me wanting more. I can’t wait to get my hands on book two. |
Kristen Noel's review Nov 03, 14
5 of 5 stars bookshelves: blog-review, r2r I was really intrigued in the premise behind The Sibyl. As a skeptic myself, I thought that the idea of combining skepticism with reality television in a novel was so unique and refreshing. Eva was a very well developed character that was easy to follow. Along with her and the pacing of this book, I was immediately swept up in the world that Cynthia Witherspoon had created. There are so many elements to this book, and I enjoyed every single one of them. There are several parts to the plot, but I found the author's writing to make this an enjoyable read. She showed so much talent for story telling and I cannot wait to dive into more of her works! **I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review with no compensation. Us Girls & A Book Review #2
I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book. Oh my! This book will grab your attention and not let it go! The Sibyl (The Oracle Series) (Volume 1) tells the story of Eva McRayne, a skeptical woman who just wants to earn a steady income. When she has the chance to earn that income, she takes it, but soon finds herself shackled to a Sibyl, a woman who is able to foresee the future Cynthia D. Witherspoon uses amazing creative detail to tell an interesting story, and creates just enough conflict to keep you on the edge of your seat E.L. Ervin's review Jan 05, 15
5 of 5 stars Read from January 04 to 05, 2015 Wow! Such unmistakable talent woven with old tales of greek mythology, which i adore! But...this novel sheds light on a whole new standpoint. The MC Eva, is an everyday regular girl who is just so lovable, from the start. I loved the paranormal twists, enthralling paranormal adventures, paranormal, Paranormal, PARANORMAL!!! Lol. I was on the edge of my seat, reading this novel and did NOT want to put it down. Just an overall great novel that was thoroughly exciting and well explained, for a novel that is shorter than I am used to reading. I am anticipating the sequel!! 5 stars Cynthia D. Witherspoon! |

Witherspoon is a master of dialogue. She weaves a captivating story with elements of the paranormal and Greek mythology that is amazingly relatable. Ms. Witherspoon did a fine job with character development and, despite the paranormal element, the characters are believable and you can't help but care about them T.R. rated it 5 of 5 stars
Wow! This story blew me away. From the beginning until the end, I could not put it down. Eva has followed her best friend across the country to help him start his TV show. Little does she know, she is getting more than she bargained for. Eva's life has been turned upside down and the paranormal world takes her by surprise. This story will have you on the edge of your set until the end. This is a must read story for anyone who loves paranormal stories. Melissa Burcham rated it 5 of 5 stars
I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book. CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS This book was wonderful! I really enjoyed reading this book. I have always believed in ghosts and enjoy reading about them. Eva does not believe in ghosts or anything paranormal. Her best friend Elliot, however, does. Elliot's father is founder and CEO of Theia Productions. Elliot has been raised in the Hollywood life style. Eva and Elliot meets and becomes best friends in college. After college, Elliot has a grand idea of creating a ghost hunters type of television show. He convinces Eva to join him. As Eva and Elliot are attending a paranormal conference to prepare for creating their show, something happens to Eva that changes her entire life. What happens to doubting Eva? How is her life changed? What becomes of the show Elliot wishes to produce? If you like ghost paranormal reads, then I highly suggest you to read this series! I have just finished vol 1 and am now off to read vol 2. I cant wait to see how this story unfolds! |

Paranormal story with a skeptical Sybil *Spoilers* This book was pretty good. Eva and Eli are great friends, they actually remind me of some of my friends. Eli is open to paranormal possibilities and Eva is a typical skeptic. Eli comes to Eva with a chance at taping a paranormal show (a la Ghost Hunters), and Eva begrudgingly agrees. Contracts are signed and deals are made. Eva and Eli decide to attend a paranormal conference so that "they will sound like they know what they're talking about it", and Eva unwittingly becomes a "volunteer" at the scryer's seminar. Eva ends up taking the place of the scryer/Sybil, and with that comes the protection of a dark and mysterious stranger, Cyrus. Cyrus is bound to Eva, and he helps protect her from spirits. Eva ultimately decides that this new power can help further their show, so she stays on for the first taping, which is very entertaining, and great for ratings. The characters are relatable, and there's a lot of great one-liners. This book should be devoured by anyone who has a slight interest in the paranormal. Fantastic start to a new series! ByDonna Mon February 22, 2016 So, let me just start by saying I am totally hooked on this series! I picked up my kindle last night to finish this book and found myself halfway through the next book before I realized it was the middle of the night! It's that good! It hooks you immediately and doesn't let go! The writing style is fast paced and easy to follow. The main character Eva is a normal everyday person thrust into the paranormal world due to an event outside of her control. From there the adventure really takes off! I especially love the way the author brings you into her world. The plot is exciting, the characters are multidimensional, likable and easy to identify with. You will be so engaged in the story you will literally get goose bumps , gasp and possibly jump during certain scenes! The story wraps Greek mythology around the paranormal world which makes it even more interesting! The author has definitely taken her time to research her Greek mythology and keeps it exciting and engaging Though this author was totally new to me, I am so looking forward to following Eva and her friends on the rest of their adventures that I have already purchased every book in the entire series! I am that impressed with her work! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the paranormal, Greek mythology or just a fun slightly scary adventure! This book has it all ! This is 5 stars all the way from me! I can't wait to see what happens next! |

amazingly well written book By jess on July 18, 2015 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase This book had solid characters an excellent theme that was well researched. Great sense of foreshadowing in the book. It was amazing, the only problem was it was indeed the beginning of a series and was a little short. I for one will be reading this entire series because I am hooked. Great job by the author, excellent book |
THE DEMONS OF OLYMPUS
The Gilded Gods Series, Book Two
(Previously Released as The Fanatic and The Seer)
Terrick Heckstall's review Nov 28, 2014
5 of 5 stars Read in November, 2014 Do you know about prize fights? There are two people that you want to fight. You clamor for it. But the fight is not given to you just like that. It is given time to build, and grow, and manifest…..until the next thing you know, you are almost salivating for the big confrontation. And when the confrontation occurs, you feel that every bit of it was worth the wait. Every inch and every second was worth the wait. That is The Fanatic. Cindy D Witherspoon’s work is like a prize fight. It builds and builds until you just CANNOT wait for the big finish. And when it happens, the satisfaction is absolute. Cindy’s greatest greatness lies in her astute talent for complexity. Reading about her character, Eva McRayne, is like a master class in complexity. Eva possesses the behaviors that can annoy you, such as prissiness, stubbornness, and the need to be leftfield when everyone else is on the same page. At the same time, though, she has vulnerability, a sense of purpose and responsibility, and a fierce sense of loyalty to her loved ones and allies that sees the superficial quasi-prima donna transform into a determined crusader, a voice for the voiceless, and a helper of the defenseless. It’s quite a spellbinding thing to behold. The Fanatic is a must read. Cindy D Witherspoon is on my radar now, and will be firmly placed there, for years to come. |
L.A. Wild's review Dec 20, 14
5 of 5 stars Read from December 17 to 20, 2014 C Witherspoon goes from strength to strength. This talented author has nailed it yet again. So, where to start without giving the whole plot away. Cyrus, Eva and Elliot are all back for another escapade but this time, Allison, out for revenge against Eva (the Sibyl), calls on the Erinyes, otherwise known as the fates, to seek retribution. We, the reader, follow Eva as she begins to unravel the plot, along with her disastrous love life. With those close to her in immediate danger, Eva tries to understand who could possibly want to threaten her and those she loves. When evil comes for Eva she is force to fight the supernatural while untangling her own feelings for two men. This story has it all. Greek Mythology, a strong storyline, twisted suspense, love triangle and a bit of romance served on the side. I love these books! I recommend you give these a try, you will not be disappointed |
T.R.'s review Dec 30, 14
5 of 5 stars Read from December 28 to 30, 2014 This is the follow up book to The Sibyl. The Fanatic, just like The Sibyl, has kept me up late at night because I could not put down these books. The Fanatic takes place right were the last books ends. From the beginning of this story, you are thrown into another world that is full of action and out of this world experiences. Eva is once again put into life treating battle to protect the one's she loves. We learn more about why she was chosen to be The Sibyl. Quickly we see a whole other side of Eva that is stronger than she even knows. There are people and Gods who want her dead, but she has to find out a way to even defeat her enemies. In the end, Eva has to struggle with becoming herself and finding who she truly is. The only thing I hated about this book is the words "The End". I wanted more and can't wait to see what this writer comes up with next. This is a must read series for anyone who likes action-packed, paranormal, romance and so many twist that will keep you guessing. |

A throw down of mythical proportions *Spoiler* This book starts out in the prologue from the viewpoint of Allison, who was dethroned by Eva as having the number one paranormal show. A little confusing at first, but I understood why it written that way. Allison decides to commit suicide by way of vengeance to make Eva pay. While in the Underworld, you are introduced to the Erinyes, which are the Goddesses of Vengeance. Creepy, creepy little girls. Together with Allison, they plot to have the attention taken away from Eva and Apollo, and put back on themselves. Allison is sent back to our world, and hooks up with Eli, he's then attacked and is falls into a coma. Cyrus gets wind of this plan, and isn't too happy. He and Eva visit Athena, who has made an appearance in our world. Eva gets a glimpse of what makes Athena tick, then she's off to battle Allison. A most epic battle is waged, in the middle of a snowy abandoned cemetery (great effect), and ultimately Eva wins. Eli is revived from his coma, and all is well. Eva and Eli remain friends, and Cyrus is finally stuck with Eva, not the other way around. (Disclosure, I'm reviewing for Kylie's Fiction Addiction |

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fanatic delivers a knockout punch!
By Donna M on February 25, 2016 In this, the second book in the Oracle series, the author really comes out swinging! If you like a book that literally grabs ahold of you in the first chapter and refuses to let go then this is the book for you! I found myself holding my breath as I was reading glued to each page not able to put the book down. Like the first book, this book is based around the main character Eva and her journey to becoming The Sybil and it too is based around Greek mythology. This time The author comes back even stronger as do her characters. They continue to develop and grow as does this entire storyline. I love that the author takes the time to allow her characters keep evolving but at the same time keeps them believable. We meet some new characters and learn much more about the ones we already know, some good some not so good. The writing is fast paced, riveting and keeps you on the edge of your seat! There are several OMG moments in this book that will literally leave your jaw on the floor! Just when you think you know what's going to happen, suddenly there is a plot twist and everything shifts the other direction. This book does not disappoint, it is the ultimate "good" verses "evil' story packing a solid 1,2 punch. This author has completely pulled me into this series! I have been reading these books back to back, literally starting one book the minute I finish the last. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves action packed paranormal, Greek mythology, and a bit of spine tingling fun! I for one can't wait to see. Another 5 stars from this reader! |

I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book. CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS Wow! That is all I can say; just wow. I have been enthralled with this series and this volume did not disappoint! The author didn't just hit it out of the ball park, she hit it out of this solar system! Eva and her team have just signed the contracts for the second season of Grave Messages. The thing that she wasn't told prior to signing is that this season is going to be different. Elliot is no longer going to be her co host on the show. He is taking the producer role. Leyton, a seer, has been brought in to co host. Eva has also been told that she no longer has much say so in where they go. Eva and her team are sent to Montana. The spirits haunting this horse ranch are ancient. Us Girls & A Book Review #2
I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book. Cynthia D. Witherspoon is an amazing author; she kept me surprised during the all of the books in her series, and I honestly don’t know how she does it. I cannot begin to tell the readers just how great these books are. They have intrigue, fear, love, conflict, and unexpectedness on each page. I cannot wait for the next one to come out. |

5 of 5 stars Read on March 03, 2015 This is the third book in this series and read the first two books before this one. Just when you didn't think this story could get any better, this one blew my mind. The twist is truly brilliant in this story. You never know what is going to happen with Eva and the ending had me on the edge of the seat. Eva and her team heads to Montana in this story and what they find is shocking. Cyrus is the most incredible guy and protects Eva from all the horrible things that comes her way. Every super natural in this paranormal story is unlike any other I have read and I love every part of this story. This is one of my new favorite series and can't wait for more. Look forward to seeing what happens to Eva and Cyrus in the future. |

5 of 5 stars The Seer is AMAZING! Book 3 brings about new struggles, new truths, new conflicts, and new realizations for Eva. And Cynthia does not disappoint. Her mastery in interweaving the complexities of Eva's responsibilities as The Sybil with the ins and outs of her "normal" life have only gotten better with this third installment of The Oracle Series. I actually caught myself talking to characters like I would while watching a film! The best part of it all? Three books into it, yet it seems that Witherspoon has on scratched the surface of Eva McRayne. There is more to her path as Appollo's ward. And I, for one, will follow the story every step of the way. 5 stars to Witherspoon. The Oracle series was already magnificent, and now it's three of a kind...in ACES. |
S.N. Graves: Disturbed Graves
Wow! have I got a good one for you. The Seer is the third book in a series, sent to me as an ARC. I expected to be confused, maybe even a little uninterested because, let's be honest, picking up with the third book in a series is like trying to watch a movie in the third act. You know what though? It didn't matter. From the first line I was engaged and by the end of the first scene there was no way I was putting the book down! The writing is beautiful, tense, and before you realize it you've stayed up all night reading. I have found my new paranormal series to love and a new author to stalk. |
5.0 out of 5 stars The one really starts out with a BANG!
ByDonna Mon February 28, 2016 The only thing wrong with this series is that I can't stop reading it,...really! The Oracle World has grabbed a hold of me and is not letting go! I have literally gone straight from the last page of each book to the first page of the next immediately upon completion. It's that good! This, the third book in the Oracle series takes off at breakneck speed and never really slows down! This series continues to center around Eva and her journey into becoming the new Sybil. Eva continues to grow into her role and her character along with the other characters just keep getting more intriguing as the story line gets even more exciting. In this installment we meet more new characters one of whom is a Seer. The question is,..is he here to help or harm? There are alliances formed and bonds broken. Who can Eva trust ,,,,?? One of the things that I love about this story is the fact that the author has chosen to empower her main character (Eva) to be a strong female lead. She can take care of herself but yet knows when to ask for help ..the perfect balance! The writing style continues to flow effortlessly and keeps you emotionally invested throughout the story. I highly recommend this book and this entire series to anyone looking for a good read. It's good clean fun with laugh out loud moments along with plenty of thrills and chills, something for everyone! Another 5 stars all the way...I LOVED IT! |

So I was given this book to read and was told to give an honest review. Well in my honest opinion... This book is the shizznit! I love how well put together the history and mythology was put together in this book. I'm also a HUGE fan of paranormal and man was there some paranormal in this book. Every word had me itching to read the next and find out what would happen to Eva. I loved rooting for the main characters in this book, but the way it was written even had me rooting and looking forward to reading about the secondary characters. I must say I am #teamcyrus all the way. I am a huge fan of men who are willing to do anything to protect people. I can't wait to read what comes next in this series! I read the whole thing in a little over 24 hours and am gripping the edges of my seat waiting to be sent the next book. In other words, READ THIS BOOK! |

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the series and waiting for book 5
By Sassyintx on September 12, 2015 Format: Kindle Edition The Oracle Series was a great read from my norm of shifter-type themes I usually read. The series is a fast paced read that does not drag out with a lot of "fluff" that I find myself skimming over. I quickly went on to read The Thief, book 4. Now I'm left hanging and need book 5 quickly. |
Awesome paranormal series! I can't wait to see what Eva goes through next.
By Corey D Clancy on July 3, 2015 Format: Kindle Edition The Sibyl book 1 Oracle series This book is an amazing start to what is sure to be an amazing series. Cynthia Witherspoon is a great author that uses Greek mythos to spin an alluring tale about the Sibyl. The Fanatic book 2 Oracle series Book 2 continues with Eva trying to navigate her new world as the Sibyl and her new status as a celebrity. This one starts off with a new foe trying for revenge against our heroine for a slight she feels Eva dealt her. Eva must also try to find herself and her heart. Witherspoon is an amazing author with a great twist to Greek mythology. The Seer book 3 The Oracle series Wow. OMG! Speechless That ending rocked! I cannot say any spoilers. I won't say any spoilers. Cynthia Witherspoon has done a phenomenal job with book 3 of her Sibyl series. This book takes you to the mountains in Montana and brings in a new pantheon of Gods for Eva to figure out. She finds her heart and her true calling in this book and the ending is heart pounding. You have to read it to see! As with the majority of my reviews, I try not to get into detail about the books they are for. I try to make it short and sweet, telling how I see the book in as few words as possible. This is about the book, not my words. This series is amazing and a complete hit. Cynthia Witherspoon is a talented author with a gift of imagination and storytelling. Read a few chapters and tell me I'm lying |
5.0 out of 5 stars Original and amazing!
By Amazon Customeron September 16, 2015 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase I am a HUGE fan of Greek Mythology, I read the Odyssey when I was in fifth grade. I saw a blurb for this book and just had to check it out. I was not disappointed! I quickly fell in love with the characters and writing style of of these books. Cynthia was able to blend ideas as old as Greek Gods and Goddesses into modern culture without overwhelming the reader and still keep the magic! Not familiar with Greek Myth? Don't let that stop you from immersing yourself in this wondrous adventure. The series doesn't throw Greek Lore at you, but you learn along with the main character Eva as she struggles to come to terms with, and embrace being a Sibyl. Praise to the author for getting me out of my reading rut with these three books and reminding me why I fell in love with Ancient Greek times so long ago! |
New series to fall in love with!!

A chance meeting at a convention transforms her into the Sybil. Eva now has a guardian/keeper that she begins to fall for and puts a strain on her relationship with Elliot. As the series progresses, Eva is faced with challenges and risks that make her decide what she wants in her life. This series is wonderful and I'm looking forward to more from this author. |
The Oracle Series
By MissezMathis on April 11, 2015 Format: Kindle Edition *A complimentary ecopy of this book was gifted to me by the author in exchange for my honest review.* I really had no idea what to expect when I went in to this story. Eva's life has been turned upside down and it happened fast, not dragged out. There is just enough mystery and intrigue to keep you flipping the pages or swiping your kindle. What I love is the Greek Mythology that this whole story is based on. Gods of Old still among us. Still wanting the attention they seem to crave. But in our modern day world? How is that possible? *Smirks* Eva, the SYBIL, shows us how it's done. I love the Gods featured in this series so far. Elliot, best friend, first love for Eva.....I liked him in the beginning but now I'm just scared of him. He's a traitor. A lot of curse words come to mind when it comes to him. Cyrus, Eva's keeper, I'm in love. He's a good man. He'll protect Eva, always. And it doesn't hurt that he's full of useful information. *Swoons* As for our main character, Eva, she doesn't take anyone's crap, she's compassionate, and all things considered, she takes it all in stride I sure couldn't pull off. I really do hope for more because I was left with a scary infinity feeling. It was a great paranormal, suspense read, embedded with Greek mythology that kept me reading more & more. Unique, one of a kind story. I want more of the Sybil!! |

5 of 5 stars About a woman named Eva who becomes a oracle that can talk to the dead or spirits through any type of mirror. The 1st book is all about how she is somewhat dealing with the power and her keeper. The 2nd is about her getting used to the routine of the show and her powers but jealously is a killer. The 3rd is about her on her second season of the show and she is now paired with another God and a jealous bf or would be bf for a producer. It doesn't end well but you have to read it. |
New paranormal series that will get you hooked
ByLisame on May 21, 2015 Format: Kindle Edition **I received a complementary copy of this series from the author for an honest review** All I can say is wow! I don't read paranormal that often because more often than not, they tend to be just too far out there for me to connect with the characters. That is not the case with The Oracle Series. I read this as the 3part series and I was hooked immediately. The characters were easy to connect with and the story was more about Greek Mythology; with a little bit of ghosts and monsters thrown in. I found myself turning the pages excitedly to find out what was happening next. Book 3, The Seer, ends in a cliffy, so be prepared. ... Cynthia Witherspoon has done a great job on this series and I can't wait to see what's in store for Eva, Cyrus, Joey, Leyton, and Eliott. |

5 of 5 stars Read in June, 2015 So I just got done reading the first three volumes of Cynthia Witherspoon’s The Oracle Series. If you haven’t read it yet, and you’re a fan of urban, paranormal fantasy, this is a series you’re going to want to check out. I don’t want to tell you too much about the plot of the books, because it’s best of you discover the story for yourself, because doing that is a definite treat. But I will give you a sort of Reader’s Digest Condensed version of what’s been going on in the series up to this point. Kicking off in the first book, The Sybil, after college, Eva McRayne decides to go with her best friend Elliot Lancaster to Los Angeles to take part in his paranormal investigation show. At first this seems like a simple enough proposition, but at a paranormal convention, events occur that change Eva’s life forever. Eva is basically tricked into becoming The Sybil, the immortal servant of the Greek god, Apollo, tasked with being a speaker for the dead and to bring new worshippers to Apollo, which he thinks will be accomplished nicely by Elliot and Eva’s television show, Grave Messages. Eva now has to be very careful of mirrors, since the dead use them to communicate, and possibly even break through into our world. What follows is Eva, Elliot, their intrepid cameraman Joey, and Eva’s immortal guardian Cyrus starting to film the show while Eva tries to come to terms with being the Sybil. Of course, it doesn’t go smoothly. The second book, The Fanatic, kicks off with someone that’s seeking revenge on Eva making a horribly dark bargain that will again have a hell of an impact on Eva and the crew. In addition to still learning the ropes of being The Sybil and bringing followers to Apollo, Eva now has to contend with an unhinged servant of the goddess Athena who’s out to usurp Eva’s role as The Sybil, and to get revenge for her perception that Eva ruined her life. I burned through this book just as fast I burned through book one, the story has a great pace, is well written, and is just a damn good story. Finally, we come to the last book in the series(so far), The Seer. After her troubles with Allison Thomason, Eva is back in L.A. and ready to go into production on season two of her show Grave Messages. The trouble for her is, things are due for a gigantic shakeup. In addition to Elliot’s role changing, and having to deal with changes in their relationship, Eva now has to deal with another new co-host, Leyton. After heading out to a haunted horse ranch to film an episode for the show, Eva finds herself dealing with not only a particularly nasty spirit, but a skinwalker as well. Another one of the Greek gods gets involved, and events take place that will once again change Eva’s life forever. Man, that girl just can NOT catch a break! Thankfully, this is not the end of The Oracle series, but it’s a great start to a series that I hope goes on for awhile. Fans of books like Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files, or Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles will find a lot to like in The Oracle Series. They’re all quick, enjoyable reads, and if you’re anything like me, they’ll leave you wanting more. That’s really my only complaint about this series, that I want part four NOW! So, yeah, get on that, Cynthia, huh? Hehe. So check out The Oracle Series. You’ll be glad that you did. |

5 of 5 stars bookshelves: clean-romance, favorite-authors, friends Read in May, 2015 I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book. I have read a lot of paranormal book in my day, however I have yet to come across one like this one before. This book was one for the ages. I was flipping through my kindle as fast as I could to find out what happened next, but in some way I wanted to read it in daylight because the thought of ghosts and having things like that come out of hiding places scare the crap out of me. Eva, our heroine, is fresh out of college and wants to make money fast. I mean who wouldn't at that age. She is also head over heals for her best friend Elliott. Elliott's dad happens to own a television studio and offers them (to get his son off his back) TV time for a paranormal show that shows Eva and Elliot going into haunted houses and finding paranormal things. Eva is a skeptic. Elliot is a believer. Well everything changes one day when they get to New York for a conference to gain knowledge on the paranormal world they are about to embark on. Oh and there are greek gods thrown into the mix! Jump on for this wild ride! This is one book you will not want to miss out on! I am shocked that I had not picked up her books until now. How could I miss this book on my kindle? I am off to see what happens in the next book in the series, with my lights on. Ms. Witherspoon is an author to be on the lookout for. Heather rated it 5 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were wonderful. There was an interesting dynamic between the three main characters, I went back and forth on who was my favorite. The story is great. I found it intriguing and had a hard time putting it down. I continually wondered what would happen next and when I thought it couldn't get any more interesting it did. |

*A complimentary ecopy of this book was gifted to me by the author in exchange for my honest review.* I really had no idea what to expect when I went in to this story. |

Sep 15, 15 5 of 5 stars bookshelves: read4review, fantasy, favorites, greek-mythology, humorous, magic, romance, shifters, paranormal,paranormal-romance Read from September 12 to 14, 2015 *A complimentary ecopy was provided by the author in exchange for my honest review.* My emotions were literally all over the place during this read. Our Sybil, Eva MacRayne, is on a quest to stop Elliot from killing anymore people, and he's doing it all in the name of Hera. It gets personal after he goes after the ones Eva loves. Along the way we meet The Greek King God himself, Zeus. I loved the interaction between Eva & Zeus. He was hilarious!! And quite generous. We also met his son, Hermes. He was kind of annoying but not too bad. He grew on me. Cyrus, that man has made me hopeless romantic. I really do love him & Eva together. Those were the most beautiful words I had ever read when it came to a love scene. It was the emotions in those words that made that scene beautiful. I think what I liked most about this whole story, was that it's kind of a reverse or opposite cliffhanger. Let me explain,(view spoiler). So yes, it's juicy and it just makes you want more & it's so good because surprisingly enough, this is a short story. It's packed full of action and the emotions in this fantasy are eerily real. I love THAT!! |
5.0 out of 5 starsHang on for the wildest ride of your life! ByDonna Mon February 29, 2016 I am still picking my jaw up off the floor as I'm writing this review. The first chapter in this book will absolutely blow your mind, and the rest of the book will have your heart racing and leave you on the edge of your seat! The Thief is the fourth book in The Oracle series, and the most action packed yet!. This is a real page turner, the writing is effortless and flies along. If you didn't think this author could possibly throw anything else at Eva and her friends, guess again. This book really takes you on a roller coaster of a ride through every possible emotion. There are twists and turns at every corner. Eva is put to the test in ways you never see coming. You will be beside Eva in her darkest hours as she is betrayed by those once closest to her. Sometimes in our darkest hour we find out who we really are and who is really there for us, with Eva it is no different. Will she rise to this challenge or will she in finally fall.....and if she falls is there anyone to catch her? This book really delivered, it may even be the best yet!( and that's saying a lot!) I have read and loved this whole series and I can tell you I NEVER saw the things in this book coming...the last chapter ....OMG I was in shock! If you haven't read this series I don't know what you are waiting for, you are missing a fantastic journey! Once again 5 stars from this reader! |

5 of 5 stars Read from June 15 to 19, 2015 This series just gets better and better. You think, you know what was coming next, you are wrong. I was afraid during this story that Eva and Cyrus was going in the wrong direction with their relationship, but I'm glad that didn't happen. I was in tears in many places in this story because I could feel the emotions that Eva was going through. We get introduced to some new characters in this story. Each one gives the story a new twist and I can't wait to see what comes up next. This paranormal series is unlike any other I've read and I love it. Now it will be hard to wait and see what happens next in this series. |

ByMichelle Mel on September 17, 2015 I was absolutely in love with the first three books before this one, and couldn't wait to get my hands the fourth installment of the Oracle series. This book does not disappoint! While we continue to follow Eva on her journey that is her life as the Sibyl, we learn the fate of Elliot, her former love who is now one of her newest enemies. The last book leaves you with a giant cliffhanger as to what exactly happens to Elliot, this books answers that and leaves you in suspense as his plot against Eva unfolds. This is still one of the most unique books I've ever read and has quickly become a favorite of mine. Cynthia truly knows how to turn words into magic and tell unforgettable tales. |

I was gripping the edge of my seat waiting to be sent this book and man was I not disappointed. We follow eva after she's been on the road like crazy with Joey and Cyrus. There are so many twist and turns in this book it has you saying "you go girl!" And "you can go straight to hades!" To the author! Read it and you'll be in love with the world of Greek myths just like me! |
Drew's review Jun 20, 15
5 of 5 stars Read in June, 2015 I was provided with an ARC copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. That's no trouble for me at all. hehe. So, a few days ago I finished burning through The Thief, Book 4 in Cynthia Witherspoon's awesome The Oracle Series, and hooray, the awesomeness continues! First things first, if you haven't read the first three books in The Oracle series, then you need to click away from this review right now and go get yourself a copy of the first three books. Yeah, you can get a sense of what's been going on in the first three books from Vol. 4, enough so that you wouldn't be totally lost, but you'd be cheating yourself out of a great reading experience, so go get 'em. I'll wait. You back now? Ok, good. So onto book 4. Once again, the main focus of book 4 is Eva McRayne, the Sybil, the Speaker for the Dead, the Daughter of Apollo, tasked with speaking for the dead and with bringing in new followers for the Golden One, a job she's VERY good at. This time, however, things are not going well for Eva and company. After the events of the last book, Eva's former best friend and ex-love interest Elliot Lancaster is back in the game, and now he's playing for the other side. Like Anakin Skywalker, Elliot has fallen to the Dark Side. Unlike Anakin, there ain't no redemption coming, and honestly, after the things he does in this book(which I won't tell you about, being a firm believer in No Spoilers), I don't want to see him redeemed. He needs to pay. Elliot is no longer a friend, he has definitely become a nemesis, actively trying to destroy Eva. And if that's not bad enough, the goddess Hera, still smarting over the defeat Eva handed her, has placed a bounty on The Sibyl. Luckily for Eva though, she's still got Cyrus of Crete at her side, as well as her cameraman Joey(who is thankfully able to lighten the mood several times, Joey's good comic relief), and by the end of this novel, Eva will have some new alliances. As always, this book is very well written and moves at a lightning pace. I've come to really care about Eva and her little crew, and I tells ya, there are some things that happen in this book that made me actively angry. But what was also great to see was Eva in some ways get more and more at ease with her role as The Sybil, and even becoming more and more badass. I tore through this book in a couple of days, and now I have to wait for the next one, which as always is my only real complaint about the Oracle Series. I read through them so damn quick, and I've got to wait WAY longer than I want to for the next one! It's totally worth it, though. hehe. As I've said about this series before, the writing is top notch, and if you're a fan of Greek mythology and paranormal investigation, Butcher's Dresden Files of Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid Chronicles, hell, if you're just a fan of a good story, you're going to find a lot to like in The Oracle Series. So if you haven't already, go get 'em, crack open your favorite beverage, get into a comfortable seat, and enjoy! |
T.H. Morris's review Jun 20, 15
5 of 5 stars I was provided an ARC from this author in exchange for an honest review. But I have so much faith in Witherspoon's writing abilities that I would have paid for the thing. TWICE. Cynthia Witherspoon has a gift. What she has done with the Oracle Series is provide a thought-provoking, multilayered, visceral fare that will have clamoring to get to the next page. I think her most invaluable talent is the emotional depth of the characters. Each one has a story, and each one is relevant. There is no fluff in The Thief. Every character, every monster, every WORD matters. I don't place spoilers in my reviews, but I will say that if you haven't read the first three books in The Oracle Series, GO DO THAT NOW. You'll be glad that you did. TRUST ME. Now, back to The Thief. The book is so well-written and gripping. You HAVE to sit there and finish it in one sitting, because the book is written in such a way that you don't want to put it down. I know I didn't. I just love the masterful blend of Greek mythology and ghost hunting. Reading this book was like experiencing a clinic in pacing, conflict, soul-searching, and sacrifice. I cannot say enough good things about. I will conclude with this: Is The Thief as good as The Sybil, The Fanatic, and The Seer? No. It's BETTER. And that's saying something, because the first three are some DAMN AMAZING books. Bring on Volume 5, Cynthia! I am ready right now! |
Drew's review
Sep 23, 15 5 of 5 stars Read in September, 2015 I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, but that actually has no bearing at all on this. I’d have easily paid full price for the book because I’m hooked on this series. Once again, Cynthia shoots and she SCORES! First, however, a bit of business. If you haven’t read books 1-4 of the Oracle series, look away right now. Seriously, there’s nothing here for you. Come back when you’ve gotten yourself up to speed. Hehe. Seriously though, go read the first four, you’ll enjoy them. I promise. Anyway, on to the subject under discussion today, Book 5, The Guardian. Again, it’s a great story about Apollo’s Daughter, The Sybill, Eva McRayne. The reader’s digest condensed version: After her last, unsuccessful battle against Hera’s pet Skinwalker, Elliot Lancaster, Eva’s in a hospital, torn up, injured, and healing. By her side as always are her Keeper, Cyrus of Crete and her ever-faithful friend/cameraman Joey. Due to certain events, the Greek gods have decided that not only will Evie be the speaker for the dead and the representative of Apollo on Earth, she’s going to be the point girl for the whole Greek pantheon on Earth. In order to get ready for this task, and to give her a better chance of surviving Hera’s vendetta against her, Eva is sent from the hospital in Charleston where she’s recovering to Hecate’s Academy for Keepers out in Washington. There, Eva will learn new skills, and find out some things about her family and her past that could potentially shatter her world view. And no, I’m not going to tell you what those things are. I’ve got to leave you something to look forward to. Once again, this is a kickass story. There’s a lot of good action, though admittedly not as much as there has been in a couple of the previous Oracle novels. But that’s ok, because action isn’t the focus this time around. This is a time for Evie to learn some things she desperately needs to know. The dialogue as always is great, especially between Evie and Cyrus, who have become one of my favorite fictional couples. A couple of appearances by Elliot, who’s definitely become one of the villains I most like to hate, and of course a brief moment where Hera gets to once again twirl her metaphorical moustache and promise Evie that she’s going to destroy her. Of course, as the series goes on, I’m doubting more and more the likelyhood of Hera actually being able to do that. At the most, I think Hera’s going to piss Evie off, and one thing we’ve learned in the series so far is that you really don’t want to do that. If you’ve read the other books in the Oracle series, then by all means get this one. Once again, I have to air the only real complaint I ever have about one of these books, there isn’t enough of it, I burn through it too quickly, and I’m left wanting to read the next part NOW! hehe. In short, awesome job, Ms. Witherspoon! |

Sep 21, 15 5 of 5 stars Read from September 20 to 21, 2015 — I own a copy Cynthia has done it again! The Guardian is just as amazing as the last four books. This time Eva is faced with one of the hardest lessons she may ever have to learn. How to conquer her fears and embrace who she is as a person and as a Sibyl. The Thief leaves you with a lot to think about, The Guardian answers it all. Truths are uncovered, lines are drawn in the sand, and lives are changed. This book was hard to put down, the world Cynthia creates is enchanting and hard to leave. I cannot wait for the next book, and will be rereading to keep from going crazy. Taylor Freeman's review Sep 24, 15 5 of 5 stars Read from September 23 to 24, 2015 ** spoiler alert ** Cynthia yet again did not disappoint! From the very first page you are thrust back into the action packed life of the Sybil. Elliot is MIA while Eva recovers. You get to meet even more gods in this book. This book is full of action, myth history, and love. I will now just sit here and twiddle my thumbs as I wait for the next book to come out. |

Sep 24, 15 5 of 5 stars bookshelves: adventurous, arc, fantasy, favorites, greek-mythology, humorous, magic, new-adult, paranormal,paranormal-romance, read4review, romance Read from September 21 to 23, 2015 *I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.* Let me just say that I love this story. I mean, when I was finished, I had the biggest, cheesiest smile on my face. I have totally fallen in love with this series. I think it's because of the feeling feels I get when I read these stories. Yea, they're paranormal/mystical/fantasy stories but really what's a story without emotions? How else would you relate to these characters? It's just SO good!! So, let's get into this story. The Guardian is vol.5 of this series and in it Eva's recovering from her latest ordeal with Elliot. Things aren't really helpful when he tries to kill her in her dreams. So, with the advice from Papa Apollo, she's whisked away to The Academy. There, she learns from Hecate & Medusa how to defeat her greatest enemy. It isn't Elliot, either. And if that's not enough, this book has a few revelations for Eva. Which helped in defining Eva as The Sybil. I know she's been The Sybil but it's different. She's now in control over herself. You know that saying, You are the only one responsible for your happiness? That is so on point when it comes to Eva. As for the characters, Cyrus...my love. He is such a swoon-worthy male lead. Cyrus is Eva's ROCK. The one person who remains ever present in her life. And it's not just one sided, it goes both ways in them needing each other. We got to meetHecate & Medusa. You know, not all monsters are bad. Honestly, if it hadn't been for Medusa, Eva wouldn't have been able to 'grow'. Hecate, was very poised, elegant, and helpful. I guess being the Headmistress of The Academy one would have to be. Zeus, Hera, Hermes, & Apollo all come, along with other Gods/Goddesses, to congratulate her on her new role, being a representative to ALL the Gods of Olympus, not just for Apollo. That's a lot to take on & I really want to see how she handles that in the future. You'd think this book ends well with a goodnight kiss...you're wrong. Possibly DEAD wrong. Elliot. Elliot. Elliot. How I have such a strong dislike for you, so much!! There's a lesson there. Elliot is full of hate and you can see how it's destroyed him. It's like with Eva, if she had not taken her hate for Elliot and honed it in, then more than likely she'd REALLY be dead. Let me wrap this up. The Guardian isn't to be missed. It's full of revelations and some much needed self discovery. I love Eva and I love her story. I have put a lot of thought and emotion into this series and am anxious to see where it's headed!! |

Superb Supplemental Contribution to a Great Series! By Terrick Jarel Heckstall on October 3, 2015 Another hit from the fertile mind of Cynthia Witherspoon! The Oracle Series is slowly becoming one of my favorite series of all time. Why? because every time that a new one comes out, the story and fabric of the mythos becomes that much richer, that much more detailed, and that much better. And this story, which serves as a supplemental contribution to the main series itself, doesn't disappoint in the slightest because not only does it bring Eva into sharper relief as a capable woman coming into her own in the position she has inherited, it also makes one's imagination go wild with possibilities! Where does Eva go from here? What direction will the story take? Is there a moral grey area, or are you 100% certain who is good and bad? The Guardian has many twists, turns, and revelations, as well as exciting developments and entertaining, believable characters. It's just a phenomenal read, which I would recommend ten times over! Keep 'em coming, Witherspoon! |
The winds of change are blowing...
By Donna M on March 2, 2016 Just when you wonder how the author is going to continue this series without becoming repetitive or losing the wow factor here comes The Guardian! As with all the other books in this series this book delivers everything necessary to keep you tittering on the edge of your seat. This is the fifth book in this series and is focused more on Eva finding out who she really is and how to utilize the gift that she has been given. Maybe even to help her understand that this truly is a gift not a curse. Eva will have to face her biggest obstacles and take on her personal demons to be able to fully embrace all that she now is. We will learn more about the Greek mythology and how it is intertwined in who and what she is and boy is there a revelation coming there !There are plenty of heart stopping moments once again to keep you engaged and guessing as to what will happen. As always this author makes her words flow seamlessly across the page, and her characters are ever evolving. At this point they truly feel like friends and I am finding myself completely attached to them. I would say that the author has definitely done her job extremely well. I for one will definitely be reading the next installment as soon as I hit the button on this review. This series has certainly become a favorite of mine! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, exciting, and highly entertaining read!! 5 stars all the way! |
